William & Mary Delegation Visits the GYLD Secretariat

On January 6, a delegation of 15 faculty members and students from the College of William & Mary visited the Global Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD) Secretariat and the Center for China and Globalization (CCG). The delegation participated in a symposium focused on fostering future youth exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States.
Dr. Wang Huiyao, Founder and President of CCG, warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced the research fields of CCG, especially its studies on the United States and track II diplomacy.
Dr. Kyuri Park, Postdoctoral Fellow at the College of William & Mary, introduced the Global Scholars Program (GSP) at W&M and invited the young scholars from the delegation to share their backgrounds.
Dr. Miao Lü, Secretary General of the GYLD program and Co-founder and Secretary General of CCG, highlighted the goals and achievements of the GYLD, including the 2024 GYLD Annual Forum held last month. She also shared the research findings and advice from the CCG report titled Promoting China-U.S. Youth Exchanges, Implementing the “50,000 People in 5 Years” Vision.

During the discussion session, the youth delegates actively engaged in dialogues, posing questions on various topics such as the role of think tanks, China-U.S. people-to-people exchanges, especially youth exchanges, the future impact of the Trump administration on China-U.S. relations and factors hindering mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.

Founded in 1693, the College of William & Mary, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, known for being a member of the Public Ivy League, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States. The college’s Global Scholars Program (GSP) offers a comprehensive, one-year study that includes hands-on, boundary-transcending experience. The delegation is on a study abroad course in Beijing, for the “US-China Strategic Relations” cohort. This course aims to provide 15 undergraduate students with an in-depth exploration of China’s evolving global engagement, covering historical relations, contemporary foreign policies, and future strategic directions.

The event aligns with President Xi Jinping’s initiative to invite 50,000 American youth to China for exchanges and learning over the next five years. As part of this vision, the GYLD program aims to build stronger people-to-people connections and a community with a shared future for humanity.
